Embraer 314 (1)The modern prop aircraft

After making some traditional biplanes, I was attracted by the shape of this Brazilian modern turboprop airplane and going to make its model.

The Embraer 314 is a turboprop single-engine light attack aircraft based on the 312, developed by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. The nickname of 314 is "Super Tucano". In the Brazilian Air Force, the single-seat type is named as "A-29", and the double-seat type is named as "AT-29".

Though looking of 314 is mostly same as WW2 fighters, such as Mitsubishi Zero and Grumman F6F, its mechanical features are quite different from those traditional reciprocating engine aircrafts. The latest full of components are installed in this modern light attacker.

OK, let's start to make it!

Albatros D.III (6)The upper main wing, wheels & a sliding plate

Here, we have come to yhe final stage.

Firstly, an upper main wing is set in supports with some tention liners.

This work needs much concentration to set the upper wing at the symmetrical position. I marked two black points on the back of this wing.

Next, assembling front wheels under the lower wings. Thin but looking strong main landing gear was composed of 3mm width parts. Beautiful! ...isn't it?

Finally, attaching a sliding plate under the end of  this aircraft's fuselage.

Albatros D.III (5)Setting supports on lower wings

It was a hard work for me to setting supports on lower wings.

Sometimes, symmetrical positioning of parts is very difficult making because of my a little bit poor assembling ability. Right & left wings and supports could be made in slightly asymmetric shape. So, this difference of shape should be retouched by the positioning of parts.

Anyway, these supports and tension liners are set in a good position.

Albatros D.III (4)Assembling lower main wings & a horizontal stabilizer

After making the side body, I assessed the lower wings.

It is the most important point that left & right lower wings are installed symmetrically. Jigs should be helpful to set symmetrical wings, so these fixtures are strongly recommended to be used.

Albatros D.III has just only one horizontal stabilizer. Therefore, I made a slit in the center of this rear wing, and insert the fuselage to this slit.

The looking of this model suddenly has become an aircraft, hasn't it?

Albatros D.III (3)Cutting out parts, inking & attaching stickers

Carefully cutting out parts.

I wonder whether or not the moss green coloring if main wings could be dark? Always, it is very difficult to mix several colors to be suitable tone. The color of white could be necessary.

Painting the edges of cut parts to erase cut lines with water based acrylic pens.

After cutting out & painting parts, I attached stickers to express black cross which is the mark of Eisernes Kreuz.

How beautiful these parts are! I think that the painting of German fighters are something of art, aren't they?

Albatros D.III (2)Painting

It was a hard mission for me!

Manfred's fighter had a red main body and moss green main wings. Therefore, I had to paint them with 2colors at the same time. That was my first challenge, but the pleasure of finishing this work was very big for me.

For the fuselage & a horizontal stabilizer, I used Tamiya XF-7, matte red, because, I used up X-7, ordinary red. In this painting, I found that it took a little bit longer time for XF-7 to dry than X-7. On the other hand, ordinary green & brown were used to express moss green wings.

Keeping out from these parts until their finishing dry.
